This is my entry for September's competition. I do not currently have a recording of the work, but it's pretty self-explanatory. It's a pretty basic concept: Person starts shuffle on iPod, person texts people, when people text back, person clicks next. I think this piece fits the criteria for the theme of having to be something from our time. They didn't have iPods 100 years ago... let alone twenty! So here it is! I will see about making a recording sometime, and if anyone else wants to go for it, go right ahead :-)

Well for me it wasn't at all, I really don't understand this post, but I will wait for the competition members come here.

It's music using other music essentially... It's kind of like John Cage saying "okay set three radios to different frequencies: one to 98.6, one to 104.7, and another to 89.3. Whatever comes out is the music." Mine is essentailly "let your ipod choose what song (which I will call a segment) is playing, and let the texters choose when that 'segment' changes." The final product, including ring tones, etc, is the whole piece of music. Does this help explain it at all?

Kind of, what I meant is that I was expecting to listen something, there is no audio in the page yet, but I suppose you're working on it...

Anyway, I will let you competition guys to comment about it...

I'm not sure if the randomness is enough here. If I'm reading it right, you're

a) trusting that the RNG on the iPod is at all evenly random, when I've seen rumors that it takes into account plays.

B) only using 4 iterations. If you have moderately text-competent friends, you're looking at a 30-second piece plus time to text three people. I'm just not sure if that's enough.

I don't really see the meaning behind it either -- concept pieces (don't quite always, but often) need other concepts to rest on. Here you have fulfillment of a competition, but you're not saying anything.

Maybe having 5 people doing it at once, maybe extending it, but I worry about interest.
