Der Brief (the Letter)

Featured Replies

Hi there,I wrote this "Lied" (Song), inspired by Schubert. I am listening at the moment to quiet a lot of his work (Love the Winterreise) and wanted to write a Lied as well.I took a poem from Hermann Hesse (had to be German, to be true Schubert-Style) and this is the result:Der BriefThe poem means roughly translated something like:I am not worried about the letter you wrote. You say you don't love me anymore, but your letter is so long. Twelve pages, you wouldn't write so much if you did not love me anymore.I am working on a recording and on the rest of the poem-cycle. But it still might take some time.So long, hope you are looking forward to the recordingArmin

Hello again! I'm glad to see another one of your pieces! Here are my suggestions: Somehow, I think your notation software forgot the bracket surrounding the two piano staves. That should go back in :P. Also, why do you have the accompaniment starting at a piannissimo before the singer even begins to sing? I'd possibly consider making it a little louder (maybe even just a piano), and then having it decrescendo into pianissimo when the singer comes in. Also, If I were you, I'd give the singer an intital dynamic when they first come in. Ms. 6- I think your triplet bracket is supposed to cover all the eighth notes/rest. Ms. 13- did you intend on startling the listeners with a fortissimo after several measures of piano? (If so, that's alright. I'm just asking for clarity). If you didn't intend on that, I'd look at crescendoing into that measure, so it doesn't come a such a shock. Another question: is this to be sung by a soprano or a tenor? (I'm assuming a soprano). Again, your accompaniment supports your melody very well, and from the looks of it, it will be a very lovely piece when performed. Great job once again! :)
