Jazz Experiment

Featured Replies

Hey all,

A friend asked me to update something I tried out earlier which was just a piano melody unaccompanied so i added in a few more instruments to try and make it more complete - but I have no idea how to make jazz or what constitutes jazz so please, criticize harshly  Please comment if you listen.

Regards

Pravin

P.S

Once again, what key is it in please? Thanks

Jazz has a lot of dissonance and is often characterized by a swing.

The brass seem to swing a bit on their own, but the piano doesn't at all. I don't know what program you used to make this, but some do have "swing" features that take a certain type of note and swing them for you.

Jazz doesn't have a lot of dissonance. It has extended chords, larger than conventional triads. But it doesn't sound like dissonance. Try and get a copy of Sammy Nestico's book of arranging Jazz, this will help a lot.

Sounds like D?

Not dissonance, maybe, but it's not your standard I, IV, and V chords; a lot of notes are added in to make the sound kind of clash.
