7/8 for guitar

Featured Replies

this is my first successful attempt at using an odd time signature. I'm really quite fond of this :) I was probably inspired by Robert Fripp and King Crimson. I think I'll do more with odd time signatures; they really appeal to me

7/8 for guitar

Good work! I would say that you allowed enough "wiggle-room" in the rhythmic content so as not to emphasize the 7/8 time signature too little or too much (for my taste at least).

Also, I would say it is suitable for a variety of orchestrations. Guitar + guitar, guitar + any solo instrument, King Crimson with drums, you name it! :)

I often like it when the time signature is not enforced beforehand. Instead, e.g. you can think of a melody without any time signature restrictions. The natural evolution of the melody could then determine a harmonic pulse, which in turn would determine the formal time signature. I guess with that viewpoint, the time signature is reduced to a notational tool :-)

thanks for your kind words torquil :) I did choose 7/8 on purpose, but I'll try your method later! Hopefully it won't end up 11.5/16 or something haha

This sounded really renaissancey in the beginning cos it sounded a little lutey. I liked this. There wasn't all that emphasis on the 7/8, which I was kinda looking forward to. I really like the harmony in this.

Is this for one guitar? If it is I don't think it's possible to play. It's an interesting piece that I enjoyed listening to but I don't feel like you've really considered the instrument. Also I noticed that there are no dynamics in the playback of the piece but maybe they're on the score? I would really like to see the score for this piece to give you some more detailed feedback because there's only so much I can say after only listening to the piece.

mistry, thanks. I like your adjectives haha ^^ I suppose there isn't much noticeable emphasis. My dad listened to it and asked, "What's so special about 7/8? This sounds normal." Well, regardless, thanks for your support!

tuohey lol no this isn't for one guitar. The MIDI has four tracks, so I guess it would be for four guitars? I don't know what's possible on a guitar, since I've never learned how to play one. Do you know how to make a score? I'd like to provide one but I don't know how they're made. Thanks for listening by the way :)
