Largo for Piano

Featured Replies

Hi guys.I have this piece of piano music I wrote a few years back, and I would love to have your opinion on it, especially that of you piano players. I couldn't play the piano if my life depended on it, but for some reason I can't stop myself from writing stuff for it. So, from time to time I put stuff to paper that is, um… uncomfortable to play. I try to keep an eye out, of course, but I always like the opinion of those more proficient than myself for the less-than-obvious bits.Anyway, some background on the piece: Like I said, I wrote it a few years back when I was in college, but I keep tinkering it for the next year or so. I quite like it but I’ve never been quite 100% satisfied with it (thus the near endless tinkering). I originally intended it to be part of a larger work, but after repeatedly failing at writing other movements to accompany it, I decided to leave it as a standalone piece.

Largo for Piano

lol is it largo or lento?

Seems fine to me as far as playing goes. Everything should be managable, especially because it is not in fast tempo and there is a lot of pedal use.

I see how you might have liked this to be part of something larger, because after (or before) this piece, a more uptempo one could be very welcome. Not to say that it is not working as a standalone though, which it does I believe.

The piece itself is quite gorgeous, I liked it very much. Although, it's a good thing you did not make it any longer. 5 minutes in a slow tempo without any real tempo/texture (as in rhythmical texture) changes is - at least for me - close to the max :P

One thing I wondered was why did you chose to position the last 2 chords of measures 40 and 41 that way?

Thanks for sharing!

I second this piece is quite gorgeous. Lovely harmonies. The largest point of critique is some nitpicking concerning the tempo markings. Q=52 is not Veloce. When I read Veloce I think very very fast, flying fast notes...

Woops! It's supposed to be "Largo". Thanks for the heads up. What can I say... I was tired.

This piece changed tempos a lot... It was originally an Adagio, but I kept slowing it down... a lot...... Then I sped it up again a bit.

As for the chords in mm. 40 and 41.... I have no idea. I'm sure I had good reason when I put them down, but I can't remember anymore.

Also, I was under the impression that "Veloce" meant "Faster", not actually "Fast"... I think originally i had it as "poco veloce". Might be clearer if I changed is back...

Also, thanks for the awesome feedback. I really appreciate it.
