Passion for String Quartet

This piece is dedicated to Chelsea Amber Cross. Happy Valentines Day!This piece is me trying my best at the classical era style. Despite my love for that period's music, I find myself very uncomfortable writing like this. But maybe it's just self-doubt?BUT I DIGRESS!I didn't STRICTLY follow the sonata form perfectly I know, but I did it somewhat on purpose. I tried to keep it close to the framework (exp. with two themes, dev, recap etc.) but I made a pretty short recap. It just felt more natural to my ears; a venture through various keys and playing around with the themes, and then WRAP IT UP.Oh just a side note- I used pianos for the midi because I hate the string midi.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the form. What I think you should need to concentrate on is the phrasing - classical period or not, string instruments have a particular way about them - for one, repeated tones, while ok on the piano, can get boring on strings, especially at slower tempi. Jazz them up with other chord tones or passing tones! :toothygrin: Or else portato (ties with legato notes in them) gets too repetitive. What I would also recommend would be to try and use some imitation in the development. Take one small part of the motive, and transpose it, shift it, play with it! Also, being classical doesn't mean you need to stay within the first positions on the instruments. Feel free to use the higher ranges, they are fun to play as well. I think that is what is preventing the piece from being really good - the harmony is nice, the themes aren't bad either. It just needs some work on orchestration :happy:
