Untitled Piano Piece

All right. I made another new one. I decided to do something different this time by making it with Finale...despite the fact that it frustrates the hell outta me. (I couldn't even figure out how to make the rit. work. :P )

This is a nice piece. I like the dissonance in the drone left hand, and the change in the left hand to arpeggios came just in time at about :55 as it was starting to become no longer interesting. Nice transition back into the drone also, cool. Your melody is beautiful, and has a sense of sadness or despair, or loneliness. The end cuts off, I am assuming this is incomplete :) Keep it up!

It's complete, actually. But, because I couldn't figure out how to make the ritardo work (which wouldn't be a problem for me in the program I usually use, Sibelius), I can see how it would seem like that. :P I intended to put in a rit. when transitioning from the 16th-note arpeggios back to the block chords, then again at the last measure, but I couldn't get it to work. ;)

I personally think there is way too much dissonance in the left hand at the start, but once it reached 56secs I thought it sounded better, but it goes right back to the dissonance in the left hand.

I think there was a limited sound to the piece, but I think since it ends on either the 4th or 5th and you provide no resloution there is an unfinished feeling about the piece.

Well your melody was good, but the relentless dissonance distracts from it.

I use Finale Songwriter 05 and it does not do ritardo at all, if I want something like that I have to use fermatas. You could try them if you can't get the ritardo to work, but there should be an option for that in the articulation menu (if there is something like that on sibelius, I wouldn't know as I have never used that program). Good luck with that, notation programs are great, but unfortunately limited to a certain degree.
