Is melody (in a traditional sense) a highly overrated concept?

"are you guy cazy"

I don't even remember why I clicked on this topic.

why am I replying again?

PS: This is a serious question now!

Consider yourself e-slapped. You are staggeringly unintelligible.

e-slapped? I opt for the e-punchinthroated

*sigh* I should've known this wouldn't work very well in the ffa, moving to Composer's HQ..

GM!

I think melodies are occasionally overrated... but maybe thats because I have trouble writting them ;)

Does anybody other than me think that gorgeous, lyrical effervescent melody is the most important thing in music.

Sorry. You're alone. :D

What about all the beautiful music that DOESN'T have a gorgeous melody?

Say, Prelude #1 in C major from the well tempered clavier. You could argue it has a melody but then again, you can argue the street outside my house has

a melody so I think that would be a dead-end argument.

Boulez! Boulez!

Yes, doesn't he write some wonderful tunes.
