May 7, 201115 yr This is a bit of edited improvisation. For once there isn't a bunch of stupid effects. Just some EQ and compression. A little bit of reverb and pink noise sneaks in towards the end. trapt
May 15, 201115 yr Well, I'm not to sure what to say on this. Seems like your doing a bit of experimentation here on the various sounds the guitar can make. Reminds me a tad of the various instrumentals from the 60s. Especially the part after 1:30, when the action starts to build some with your drone. Perhaps, to get more responses, you can go into more depth on what you were going for?
May 15, 201115 yr Author Perhaps, to get more responses, you can go into more depth on what you were going for? Uhhhh, sitting down an playing some music? It's edited from about 20 minutes of playing, taking out less successful or more heavily repetitive parts, and placing the tapping section as more of an ABA thing. I was playing with a bunch of more electronic sounds ala Squarepusher, but realized i liked the main part too much to mask it under noise, so i went with mixing and a little ambience instead. Obvious connections (at least to me) are to Teo Macero's edits of Miles's music, though I really don't know much and it has none of the short ideas that are really common to Macero's production. I also haven't read much on Macero, only having listened to his later stuff (I still can't get through Sketches of Spain for some reason...) I feel my solo guitar stuff also has a bit of raga to it, at least in its use of drone and jor/jhaptal, if not so much alap or melodic/rhythmic constructions. But both of those to me are really obvious connections, and not quite intentional, more just stuff I noticed. I dunno. I don't know "what I go for" when I write, when I make music. It's what makes me share CO's frustration with "make every note matter" -- but instead of embracing it, I simply reject it, which doesn't really help for this kind of thing....
May 15, 201115 yr As a guitar player and a huge Miles Davis fan, I can't tell if you're being serious or not.
