i am not

I was sitting around in my apartment, it was raining outside and nothing was happening. It was like, time had stopped. I started to think about what other people were thinking; if they were as heavily bored as me? Shortly after, I was still thinking and all of the sudden the phrase “I am not” popped up in my head. Then I remembered how many times I have heard people say “I am not” during all my social interactions. People openly admitting what they aren’t. It struck me as very interesting and beautiful. I wanted the music to be light and trance-like. I also had the idea to have the Glock. player also speak the voice part from listening to David Lang’s “Little Match Girl Passion” where multiple vocalists are also percussionists throughout the piece. The piece should not be taken negatively. It is an uplifting piece with human words.
