August Monthly Competition

Featured Replies

I have no clue what they do anymore. When I was here as Monthly Competition God (still am, btw), the person who organized it would figure something out. Like, the winner might get a nice badge or something. Bragging rights?

There SHOULD be a system where the winners collaborate at the end of the year. Like,

do it this way:

So, you have January-October contests. Then, you take November off.

The winners from January - October (10 winners) would collaborate and make a short project piece as a group, for collaborative experience. They do this ALL November and part of December. (of course, you can win and opt out of this) Then, you present it mid December as a commission piece for that year for YC. And, maybe, we could get a live recording organized.

SO, that way, people who participate can work with others and have their name stamped on a live recording. It would be nice to show for resumes that you have a real piece you worked on with a "class of people" and you could explain how you worked on it and how you helped.

Cool idea? I thought so too until Monthly Competitions weren't cool anymore. :P But, if enough people do this one and next month. I might propose it for next year. Technically, I'm not in charge of the Monthly Comps anymore because I haven't been around. However, I do know how they work pretty well and have run a few of them! Now that I am in college, I have those projects to deal with, so I probably wouldn't spend time participating. But, I could be in charge of it.

It's simply an idea. And, I think, if this becomes a reality, that it should be a rewarding experience. It would be a MUCH easier reward than each Organizer trying to come up with a live performance of everything.

The OTHERRRR thing possible would be to have a YEAR of solo instrument competitions. And, have a YC person Organize from their own instrument. Trumpet, Trombone, Horn, Piano, whatever. And, you could post a recording of your skill level so that we know what to write for. Then, we could have the Organizer judge and vote on the most idiomatic and interesting for THEM, and then get a recording.

These are all things I thought about in my day. haha. :)
