First piece-Ship and Storm

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm FeralCats, I'm new. :-p I'm 14 years old. I didn't exactly grow up in a musical family, and I just started playing piano of my own volition about 8 months ago. I started mainly because I wanted to be a composer. (I hope that's not too late a start..)

Anyway, I've been writing this piece. It's curious. I want to make it longer, but I think it's sort of finished already. (Is there a 'work in progress' forum here? Maybe it would fit better there.)

Anyway, this is the first thing I've written besides other melodic fragments, and I'm such a bad pianist I can barely play it myself. And this thing is simple.Te.MID

Quite good there.

There are some (what I percieve as) accidental dissonances in there, which you should try to remove from your writing.

But you have a good theme, and a proper harmonic backing to it, which gives you something to work off.

This is quite a good attempt really - you have a B section in the middle, which works quite well.

Your main problem is just clumsiness in the actual writing, which happens to most beginners. And most of this is actually in the middle section, before the repeat of the original theme.

So I suggest cleaning that up a bit. It's hard to explain exactly, so I hope you can hear what I mean.

Anyway - that's a great start! Keep writing. Try building up to write longer pieces as well.
