February 4, 201214 yr Hi all, So recently I was asked to write a piece for brass ensemble for the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Brass Ensemble. The name really is a mouthfull, but it was just premiered two weeks ago at the Manhattan School. It was the first live performance of one of my pieces. They also had been playing for some time before this. Since then I was recently asked to write a piece for symphonic band to premiere in China. My college's band is doing a week and a half-long tour of Beijing and Xi'an, so I'm in the process of putting something together for that, which I'm really excited about. February 4, 201214 yr Dominus - yeah. As I wrote awhile ago, having my first NYC premiere was one of the biggest highs I ever got in my life.
February 5, 201214 yr Congrats! It's been a great chance for your music to be heard and appreciated. And, as you correctly point out, in very good company. Getting the first premiere is an achievement in itself (I have never had one real premiere). But the hardest to get, I guess, is the second premiere... Well done! Good luck!
February 5, 201214 yr Author Thanks a lot everyone. I'm just glad I had a great group of musicians to write for. I heard them rehearse a week before this performance and it sounded fantastic. Not bad for high school kids.
