February 8, 201214 yr Hi there! My name is Skye and I am an amateur composer. I've loved classical music from a very young age (particularly Chopin and Rachmaninoff, because I'm infatuated with the piano), but my real passion is to write music for video games and film. Some of my favorite contemporary composers are John Powell, whose recent score to How to Train Your Dragon gave me eighty minutes of mindless nirvana the first time I heard it, and James Horner, whose late-80's animation scores were the first to ever make me cry. I think my strengths as a composer are my ability to intuitively create and recognize strong themes, and my musical memory. I think most of my weaknesses lie in lack of knowledge; that is, knowledge of orchestration, pitch ranges, advanced theories like counterpoint, etc. Because I compose exclusively using a keyboard, a sequencer, and instrument sample libraries, I don't usually think about pitch ranges or what would be "comfortable" to play. It's my hope that by studying my favorite classical pieces, I can learn how to more effectively use the instruments of the orchestra. I spend a lot of my free time listening to and writing music, singing, and working on building my piano skills. But when I need a break, I enjoy reading and sketching, watching TV shows on Netflix and playing video games on my Nintendo 3DS. I'm really looking forward to improving my composition skills with the help of my fellow forum-goers and I hope I can one day be of use to them. I looked at a lot of composition forums before registering, and this particular one looks like it's full of positive, passionate people. So please don't be hesitant to say hello or drop me a PM, because I love talking to people! ~Skyeberri
