A Little Punk Piano

Well, the topic says it all.

Here's 2 great songs that I had lots of fun composing with.

They both don't sound like piano songs, but yes they are pretty good! They both use a lot of classic riffs in them... but who cares! The 98% of people in the world have no idea that your using them. :P. I like the ending of I don't know, wooo vamp that scraggy!

Yes! .The first was a bit slow for punk but the seccond really caught the energy, plenty of raw parallel chords just like the way they'd play the same chord position up and down the fretboard - almost all the punk groups did. A thrilling musical era. You caught the mood all right there.

I'll have another listen to #1. I mean, it's perfectly okay as a song - (though the opening bars suggested something more like The Carpenters (a classical MOR duo, for those who haven't researched that far back!!). The repeated progression: I-vii-vi-IV-I doesn't really characterise punk (In C, that's a bass of C-B-A-F-C.) - but you're the composer; punk was a fairly loose genre so if you want it to be punk, it's yours! It certainly picked up in energy at 3:10 !

Just as a personal view, perhaps something more could be made of this song - a sort of retro pop number - or speed it up a bit to make it a pop-punk hybrid, if that makes sense. You might even start a new genre.

Well, punk is a pretty loose genre, with the DIY approach.

I was thinking more of a pop-piano-punk genre when I wrote these.

I mean, I wanted to have to have the raw energy of punk but also capture it on the piano (which is a very powerful instrument).

The I-vii-vi-IV-I progression is a lot less aggresive for punk but great for a pop song. xD

I think they make great piano songs. Just out of curiousity, do these songs have words? if not you should think about writing some. I think these pieces would sound very nice as back up for voice. They follow a nice verse-chorus pattern too. good job.

Write lyrics. I really loved both of them, especially on the piano. And the end of I don't know is really creative and interesting.
