By the way, I've listened to a lot of other atonal stuff, those are just the 2 top ones that came to mind. As a matter of fact (plug) I just wrote an atonal fugue in the chamber section.... I absolutely adore them. I also like Scriabin, especially his piano sonattas 1,4 and 5. I am not too keen on is orchestral music. Berg, is also very good. He is probably the least atonal of his contemporaries Weber and Schonberg. I know that there is structure and planning in atonal pieces, but I can never seem to find them. The only atonal thing I have ever written was a joke. I called it Nico's Lullaby. He will probably be remembered for that alone. But I wouldn't class it strictly as atonal (even if he did go a bit bananas at the tail end of the intro) - it contains much based on various modes and was possibly the turning point toward his neo-classical stance. Many of my composiotions that I posted here are atonal. And from some of the comments I got the idea that you wouldnt like atonal stuff. I totally agree with you. Although I had something else to add, I tried about 3-4 times and it seemed like i couldnt construct good sentences with my poor english. hehe :) so consider that I have backed-up your statement!
