Keyboards: The key to conquering boredom

Any recommendations on the best keyboard bang for the buck?

I'm looking for a large database of realistic orchestral sounds.

How much?

Thanks.

matthew

Realistic sounds?!?! You'll be paying upwards of $3000. Anything less and it sounds artificial.

Edit: Just realised that I have posted 200 times! yeh!!!! funn!!! celebrate!

If you want more "bang for the buck", you might consider buying a nice, full hammer-action keyboard that doesn't come with it's own sounds - instead, hook it up to a software sampler like Gigasampler or Kontakt and use their wide-variety of sounds. For a less than a grand, you can probably get a good amount of high quality samples (http://www.soundsonline.com/ being one site that sells them). Of course, it also depends on how good your computer is - you might have to upgrade to a gig or two of RAM and a fairly good sound card that has low latency, which'll cost you a few hundred more.

Hey there,

I'm also investigating real sounds and the best that I have seen so far is the Garritan Orchestral Libraries. You should go check out the demos, www.garritan.com From what I understand Finale2006 comes with these sounds and otherwise the most they cost is around $500 bucks for the Orchestral Strings. The Personal Orchestral (which contains "an orchestra for each musician") runs for about $250. I already wrote a post asking whether others know more about these sounds and how they work, but no one has replied....

Check out the site and let me know what you think. I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more about Garritan once Finale2006 takes off and people start using the sounds for themselves.
