Farewell

I went for a soundtrack-ish, er, sound with this one. I tried to picture a scene where two lovers were parting. The mood is both joyfull and sorrowfull.

Instruments include strings, cello solo, piano, and oboe. This is actually my first time writing for piano, but I do play piano so hopefully it sounds decent.

This sounded like a preety descent work. The oppening melody with cello solo is very effective and melancholic. And the piano afterwards, adds to the excitement and sadness even more. The piano is mixed rather low actually. But anyway, its ok.

Thinking about the structure, I felt that you needed a dramatic, if not too explosive, climax. There is something like a climax at around 1:40 but the use of solo cello didnt made it too climatic. You could have used high strings for example.

I've updated the piece with your suggestions (it's at the same address as I posted above). I added some more high string parts during the climax, and also brought the piano and oboe out more. I like the sound better, let me know if you think it helps.

You did very well! You've hit spot on, and i can almost hear "Goodnight, my love" being whispered out between the lovers lips. Hah! Great going.

I do tend to agree with Nightfly, though. Somekind of "pointer" in the music as to where we are going. (That becomes easy once you get the picture that you are composing to). Maybe a cresc on a cymbal and some dynamic will do the trick!

So you used GarageBand? Does GarageBand contain so fine samples? Is this purely a GB-recording?

I have listened to the updated version. I'm glad you liked my suggestions. I'm sorry but I couldnt tell much difference from the previous one. I still couldt hear high strings
