"Hollywood Suite", for full orchestra and piano

I wrote this suite a few years ago, when I had the dream of becoming a film music composer.

I think you've done a very very good job composing this suite! It's clear that you've been studying the genre for quite some time.

I completely loved your love-theme!

Action-theme: I dislike the "back-beat" of the drums in the start! It sounds like a rock-tune and not a ambience-soundtrack-tune. The movement in violins and the "um-ba"-bassline reminds me of an "evil-cirkus", haha! 1:18 VERY GOOD transition from climatic forced music to piano accompanied by "stress-drums".

Finally a question; In what program did you compose this? And is this GPO?

Wherever it's supposed to go, it's some great work! This is a few years old...I'd love to hear some recent work.

I especially like the Romantic theme...and the whole thing works really well. Where I know nothing of serious film music, I'd say you captured the intended styles very well...(Frig...just got to the Dramatic Theme where the strings come in, about :20 in - gorgeous)...

Morten, thank you for the review of my Suite.

Regarding the Action Theme, in the original score no drum loops were used but as I bought a drum library it was a good oportunity to see how it works in conjunction with the orchestral sounds. It was also a way of adding more power to this theme.

Very interesting your comment about the violins and bassline remebering you an "evil-cirkus", because in another forum someone told me the same, that this theme would be perfect for a circus show :innocent: That's very funny because never thought of it, and now when I listen it try to imagine a circus show....an "evil-cirkus"! :shifty:

All Suite was composed in Cubase SX3 and the sounds used are all from East West Quantum Leap libraries. In this work I used EWQL Symphonic Orchestra (Gold, Silver and Silver XP versions), EWQL Bosendorfer (Piano) and EWQL Storm Drum (drums).

I just posted another work of mine in the "Major works" section, it's a Romance for Violin, Cello & Orchestra and it's a much more recent work.

As I told to "mpj-", nothing in this recording is "real", just great sound libraries and sequencing software :innocent:

And I must confess that I don't have time or patience to spend hours with the final mixing or tweaking instruments so this is pretty much "out of the box".

Aaaah...even excellent sound libraries, like these ones, don't match a performance by a real orchestra :)

To Berklee I sent a printed piano version and an orchestral recording from a previous version (made with a Proteus Orchestral sound module). Later, I reorchestrated the suite, recorded and sequenced it with EWQL sound libraries.

When I wrote it I think I used Encore as sequencer. It was a nice program (for that time) for notation but had a lot of limitations as a sequencer.

The Proteus Orchestral sound module was one of the best classical instruments sound module , but when I compare the two versions it's amazing to see how technology evolved and what allows to do nowadays.

cool. I still use Encore for scores. yeah, it's not really a sequencer, the midi items doesn't really help much in doing any real dynamics.

This is Truely Amazing! I beg you to stay at young composers and post anything else you ever come up with so I can listen to it. Would you mind so much if I burned an mp3 of your songs to a disc so I can listen to them over and over again?
