Rhapsody in 3Gs for Strings

Featured Replies

This is my 1st post as well as submission. This is my last song made during my high school years. I have a little trouble with forms of songs and so this one's is poor, but any suggestion helps. I made this for strings because I thought it was best to compose this with very little staves and it ended up composed very delicately. Please enjoy and suggest!

A nice intro, and the gentile strings are very nice.... the mood change at 0:53 was brilliant, and the high violin after too! The timing was great around 1:23, and the low melody is cool too, especialy at 2:05. The violin return was good, but the same mood got a little boring, so the timing at 3:00 was good. The ending was an odd one though..... the harmony mood was all mixed up and a little wierd.

A very nice piece anyway, exept the ending needs polishing.

OK, trying the review as I listen method:

The melody is very pleasant at the beginning, and :16 is pretty, though I felt the low strings could've brought more emotion to it, and I felt :45 could've been more developed. However, all your ideas sound really, really good. The alternation at 1:19 got a little annoying, but it was good. Some little rhymic things bothered me at 1:30, but I got the feeling they weren't mistakes, that they were very intentional. I love the mood at 2:05, lovely change there. Again, I felt a little more exposition of that idea might've been nice. The use of that alternation at 2:25 was nice, and bringing in the theme again was very nice. The build at 3:00 felt like it was going somewhere else; you surprised me there. The retard at the end was not my favorite, though the ending chord was nice. I don't think you fully accomplished what you meant to there, though.

Anyway, it's a very nice composition, though I think that there were some wonderful ideas, and a lot of it sounds great. But it could be a little more solidified, I think. Not much more I can comment on, nor can I give you any suggestions, but like I said, this is good, definitely.

Ah yes, this does move very nicely. There is a certain rhapsodic nature to it, because the music sets its own course. You've some surprising twists in the piece, such as the descending scale around :40. I likve the intensity of the strings aroud 1:15. That feels like it is building up to something, and I wish you would let it!

I keep feeling like I'm hearing snippets of fmous pieces, but that may just be my imagination. You've got some very clever themes. I love the part starting around 2:00. It's got rhythmic intensity that begs to do more!

This has a lot of nice tuns and good harmony. My only trouble is tha it doesn't seem to flow very well. It skips around from one idea to the next as if it is having trouble deciding what it wants to be. The main melody you used was excellent, and I suggest making more use of it.

Thank you everybody for helping me with this piece. I have been unable to post much lately due to searching for a job, but still, thank you all very much!
