Licensing Question

Featured Replies

I'd really like to get Finale or Sibelius, but I have one problem; I have two computers that I use on a regular basis, in different locations (mom's house, dad's house). Now, both Sibelius and Finale offer only 1 license per purchase. You see my dillemma, yes? While I can maybe swing one copy, to get two I'd have to trip over several shares of Microsoft.

So does anyone know what system Finale or Sibelius use to protect licensing (registration number, ect.) and does anyone know if it'll let you install two versions, as long as you don't have both open at the same time, or better yet, at the same time, on the same network? My dad has programs that allow the latter, and I was hoping that perhaps there's a composition software that's the same way.

As far as I know, it's one licence key per user, and one copy of the software installed at once per user. To have the software accessible from a network you probably need a different licence. It will probably let you install two versions, but it's not legal.

Thank you very much, the advice is very much appreciated!

Zwibe, I was pretty sure I saw only one license per purchase on thier site, but if it worked that way for you, I need to investigate further.

Actually, With Sibelius, you can install it on two computers, as long as you don't use them simultaneously (quoting from The Sibelius Group).

Correct.

I had the same question before I bought Sibelius 3. I called the company and they said that they allow one copy to be installed on 2 computers as long as they are not used at the same time.

I have Sibelius on my laptop and desktop (same copy, same serial) and it works fine.

I don't know about Finale though.
