Variations for string quartet

Featured Replies

This is a piece which I wrote in december. The theme is a polish christmas carol "Gdy się Chrystus rodzi" (When Christ is born). MuseScore performance of dynamics in 3rd variation isn't good :/ but you can use your imgination ;D

Let me know what you think!

This is really good! The way you wrote for the strings is really impressive. Also, that was a nice fughetta at the end! This piece deserves to be performed by a profession string quartet ensemble!

Very nicely done indeed!  I confess I wasn't sure what you were doing when you started the fughetta in the dominant key, but as it unfolded, I heard what you were going for.  That was an adventurous move, and it worked.  Good work!

Thank you! @J. Lee Graham actually the only reason I started the fughetta in c major was that I wanted to begin with 2nd violin and I thought F major would be either too low or too high. This forced me to insert these four bars (91 - 94) which don't sound good to my ears, but I didn't know what to do :/

@Theodore Servin Thanks! the piece was performed by me and my friends but unfortunately I don't have a recording

A better solution may come along at any time, either in a flash of inspiration, or through serious thought.  Don't worry about it.  Even if it never gets solved to your satisfaction, it's a documentation of where you were at that point in your development.  This is why I seldom revise my own compositions later, and leave them as they were, even if I know better.  I want there to be a record of my development.  I have this slightly pompous idea that someday, someone might actually care!  😉
