Opinions? (sax quartet)

Featured Replies

This is a recording of my highschool's sax quartet playing one of the songs I wrote. It was originally for oboe, bassoon, flute and clarinet but I arranged it for saxes so we could play it

I have other compositions on my web page and my first ever score to a short film if anyone is interested.

Hrm.. my attachment didn't show up  The mp3 can also be found on my page in the first post its titles "Three Dances" just in case it doesn't show up in this post either. Sorry for the double posting

Hey.

I like the 3 danses.

They seem to be written in quite a modern, but very tonal style, which is refreshing.

Each movement seems to be really short though.

Perhaps you could think of expanding the piece.

Is it four tenor saxes or what?

Yes, they are quite short. To tell you the truth, I was half way done with the first movement when my band director told me about a composition contest ... that the deadline was one day away  so I hurried home, added two very short movements and mailed it in :D

I think I will expand on them though since they are so short.

Its for soprano, two altos, and bari

Wow, well that's really good work for one day, lol.

Ahh, ok. lol. i don't know anything about saxes. just wondering if there were different timbres playing to take the different woodwind parts.

I gave the oboe part to the soprano sax, since they have similar timbres, and the bassoon part to the bari since that was the bass line, then I just gave the flute and clarinet parts to altos.

I wish I had a recording of one of our better performances of it, ah well.
