my first crack at the major works!

Ok I've been composing this song for most of the summer. I have no doubt it is the best one I've created on the computer so far, not that any of my other ones were any good lol. I'm still open to suggestions for change... I'm not completely sure I'm satisfied with how I ended it. Ok so lets follow the guidelines for posting.

Techniques

Well basically I used my keyboard to play the song as I composed it. Played what was in my head, made changes, played again, and wrote it down.

How long to compose

This one took me most of the summer. I had a very busy summer so sometimes I went for weeks at a time without working on it and other weeks I worked on it plenty.

The Pieces Structure

Hmm... well I think the format is probably ABCDEFA.

Obstacles

lol... well I got a girlfriend and for a while lost my inspiration for writing anything evil sounding lol... so I started writing a piano piece too... which isn't finished yet

Summery

I generally like listening to my own compositions because what comes out of my imagination is what I want, hopefully you'll find this piece enjoyable too

This work suits organ rather well, however texturally not very inventive - a lot of full organ with no registeral changes. I enjoyed the harmonic progressions, some of them however were a bit predictable.

Nice Work! Didn't sound like an Evil Genius playing the organ to me though :)

hey just thought I should mention that apparently the hi-fi stream of this song has a sped up chipmunk effect so to hear the song as I composed it you'll have to listen to the lo-fi stream

before i comment, about the unintentional increase in speed of the hi-fi mp3. it's quite possibly because when you made the recording you recorded at a lower frequency than 44.1 khz. that's the standard for a flash player to stream.

i agree with Andrew that I don't hear the evil genius. i think it sounds a little too mechanical. with the repetition it gets a little worse. generally keyboard music speeds up and slows down noticeably giving the music a bit more articulation.

now i can't comment on the non-inventive texture andrew remarked as i've never heard any organ work other than that one Toccata by Bach, but i must say it sounds nice to the ear even on the first play, so i guess that's a good thing. usually some music takes a few plays to get used to. good work. hope you'll be able to modify and improve this piece.

I like how well you trained the chipmunk(s) to sing so well and was astounded by their concious behavior toward the orchestra. Just kidding. It was a great piece which sounded like Bach in the beginning but later you mixed in a very distinct style. I personally really liked the relationship between the orchestra and the organ, it was quite atmospheric for the most part though the organ can be rather overpowering in places. Along with some of the other guys here, I didn't hear the evil part of it unless you consider the terrible strain of the chipmunk's vocal chords. I can't really give any suggestions other than to make the orchestra a little more present in some places (all I can hear in the MIDI is the bass, which could be the pedals in the organ for all I know). Anyway, good job and whatever you do keep composing.

I kind of felt an evil side to the piece at the start, which i love. Reminds me alot of toccata and fugue in D minor by bach, actually after i listened to this i decided to turn it on lol. 8/10 is my score (who cares hehe).
