August 28, 200620 yr Hi, my name is Jared... and this is my first post... looking for some helpful comments. ive put a few of my favorites on here... so enjoy! :) a breif explination of the pieces... all of them have numbers in front of them... so ill describe them by that. 5. a guitar duo - feels like an akward carnival. 6. a guitar duo - inspired by leo brower, a cuban composer 7. a guitar trio - sounds like the name... more along the lins of a folk song 8. a solo guitar piece 9. a guitar trio 12 a solo guitar piece... not really a dance, but i was moving and a grovin when i wrote it... 2. sounds like the name... just picture about 20 monkeys with strobe lights and glow sticks... and thats about what it. i know its a lot, but if you can spare some time... give me some feedback. thanks. August 29, 200620 yr One thing I notice about this piece is that it could be very easily arranged for two guitars and still be quite easy to play.
August 30, 200620 yr I really enjoyed your Celtic Lullabye and Monkey Rave... In your lullabye (which was perfect through the first 9 measures), I wish you would continue guitar 2 throughout almost the entire song, it adds such a nice ambiance to the song that it jars a person's ears once it is taken away. At first, guitar 2 continued (measure 8), but then it just stopped. I'm also afraid that it became a touch repetitve after a while. Try to not use so many repeats, especially towards the end. Your first two possessed very nice concepts, but the chords you used were somewhat annoying to the ear, such as in Flower; in measures 19 and 23 you have some very awkward chords. A diminished 8th and an augmented 8th do not sound to nice together (A-Bb; Bb-A). Also in Tightrope Walker you do not need so many notes in measures 23-27. I mean it sounds crazy there... just try to trim it back a little. Over all, your work is really cool. Just try not to use so many repeats and dont use monsterous chords.
August 31, 200620 yr Author yeah, ill admit it... im a tad repeat crazy.... but its mostly because im impatient... and the courds sound much better on a classical guitar, also that is sort of a hight point... or rather an attention getter, because those are aggressive rastiados (sp?), also the measures mentioned for tightrope walker are alse very aggressive rastiados. so those are ment to be attention getters and somewhat jarring i guess, but it was intentional. thanks though. i need to record those real bad... but its somewhat to find other classical players in south eastern kentucky, lol. hmmm, mabey a bluegrass rendetion of tightrope walker... interesting.... it would sound awsome for the lullabye though, have a violin play top part... interesting indeed...
September 1, 200620 yr before you read this, I want Calcium + vitamin D to realize that his Avatar is HUGE anyway here are my comments Tightrope walker your first piece I felt was unique, but there are some times where I felt that the harmony clashed way too much, and the section around measure 23 I felt gave a good bit of harmonic interest, but then you revert right back to the main theme. The change in pace afterwards is interesting, but the repeated phrases seem a little unnessecary. the measures after 64 I felt were rather neat, the harmonic interest is truly unique. and your ending I felt was really unresolved, even if your playing in a strange key like Bbminor, there is always a way to completely resolve a piece. Flowers Your second piece I found to be a pleasing ride, I kind of wondered if the piece was inspired by looking at flowers or stomping on them lol. My major problem I have with this piece is the fact that the melody around measure 33 is a little odd sounding IMO, and there is a reason for this, you use 5ths throughout that measure, and in my opinion, 5ths used over and over like that, even though they're over an octave apart, don't really make for interesting music. I'll admit that the melody is creative, but the nasty 5ths come back to bite later on in the next few measures. and the repeats again I felt was unnessecary. on the more positive side, I feel that you have a healthy imagination in the world of music, your music is unique, and this piece inparticular shows that. Celtic Lullaby Now this piece I really enjoyed:happy: yet you have the third guitar rythm in the first part using only an octave and a fifth, I felt that the effect was good, and I think that you could easily get away with having that in there. but I also felt that it could have been more varied later on in the piece. Again I felt that the constant repeats are a little overdone. But I love the melody, and cannot find anything else :) and the resolution is very very nice. Lightless Dance Very very interesting, your rythmic ideas are well thought out, and it seems to be a very very good piece IMO, but the Fermata's IMO sort of destroy the flow in places. Again, I felt that there was not enough resolution at the end A Dance in A i notice that you seem to favor drop D tuning alot, the passage around measure 9 I felt was pretty neat, the dissonance creates a need for resolution, and you give it in the next measure nicely. although, I felt that the repeat of the dissonant section was unnecessary (only IMO). I felt that the chromatic scales around measure 29 were really really well put in, nice work on that. I found measure 43 to be a little, weird, almost as if it doesn't belong, but as the composer that's your opinion and choice. Nicely resolved I may review the other works later, but that's all I have time for now All the Best Will Kirk
