Toccatina for Solo Piano, Op.4

Hi Guys

This is something i wrote last year for a university assignment. The idea of the assignment was to gradually introduce pitches over a period of time (although we were given a max duration of 2 mins). We were given 6 pitches by our composition teacher on which to base the piece (only these 6 pitches are used throughout the entire piece.)

My 6 pitches were:

B, C, D-flat, E-flat, E & F

the result is rather interesting. Enjoy!

I can only hope that this received an A. I was surprised at every turn. By changing the tonal center in the middle of the piece you created the illusion that you were working with much more than only half the of notes normally available to a composer. The melody in the second half was haunting and beautiful. The midi playback and the score combined to give me a very clear impression of what this would sound like played with emotion by a real player. I got the feeling that you could have easily (and probably would have) expanded on these ideas just a touch, perhaps doubling the length of the piece and giving it some balance. It's a shame the two minute requirement ruined that possibility. This is stunning work considering the limitations. Congrats.

I especially liked your use of piano, which show a great deal of underestanding of the instrument. I also liked your harmonies, they were suprisingly close to my own sound world.
