Piano Trio in B flat Major - Trio 2.0

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Here is a part of a Trio for violin, cello and piano I composed in 2017. What do you think?

I like this a lot. Shows much promise, and as do you as a composer considering you arranged for a performance (something which the vast majority of us on here do not seem to manage).

What are your goals/ambitions with respect to composition and what style do you seek to learn/emulate?

@Markus Boyd Thank you for your nice comment.

My ambitions would be to regularly get to have some of my compositions played in concert and have some commands. My short term goal is to manage to have one of my choral pieces sung in a concert. What are yours?

I think that at the moment my style is more close to "modal harmony" or "impressionist".

Interesting. I must admit I do not know a great deal about Impressionism - does Debussy fall under this movement?

And I’ve never really tried to compose for voice. It’s certainly something I should visit some day

As for my goals... many of my works at the moment are generally sizable projects and routinely test my experience with form and structure. For example, I have a wind quintet for which I have composed over 2 minutes for the exposition, although only 1 minute for the development so far. Something tells me this is out of balance. Needless to say, it’s an area I need to build on.

Yes Debussy and Ravel mainly.

It is really interesting to compose for voices.

I think structure is important but maybe not to the point of counting the minutes (and maybe less important than in thre past). In the end, if the musical journey of the composition makes sense then it is ok. Is there a post about this wind quintet somewhere in the forum?

No, although I can send this to you personally later.
