Song without Words In B flat major No.1

This work is called 'Song without words In B flat major No.1'

I wrote the piece about 3 years ago.

Its loads of fun to play :unsure:

Mendelsshon wrote a piece with that exact same title, I'd suggest renaming it so as to avoid confusion.

As for the piece, I would really like to see a score, I review much better that way

Not only Mendelssohn but other composers as well named some of their works with this title. There is no confusion. Mendelssohn wrote songs without words and I wrote too.

The same goes for Nocturnes

Sonnatas, etudes and many other genres within classical music.

Nice piece! You have a generally good sense of harmonic motion, and also a good feel for what makes a good melodic line.

My main concern with this piece would be an issue of piano writing. Now certainly repeated chords at that speed are possible on a piano, but what concerns me is the fact that it is difficult to play those repeated chords softly enough that the melody (which is the most important part of a Song Without Words) can be clearly heard. Now this is just an observation, and I suppose with a good pianist it may not be a problem.

Also, some of the rhythms that you gave the accompanying chords bugged my ear a bit - sounded a bit cheesy in places, if you will.

As I said, in general, your harmonic motion is good, although I believe you stay on the dominant chord in one form or another for a little too long at times.

But these are little things. In the end, it's whatever your ear tells you that should reign supreme.

I agree with aerlinndan, at times this piece stayed on the "dominant" far too long - the trouble with this is that the listener is expected the tonic and a delay of this length seems out of place. I also thought that the harmonic motion was rather "random" at times, the chords you changed to in places did not fit at all - for example where you stay on the bmaj7th chord and then suddenly the theme is re-introduced in B-flat!!! this sounds very bizarre to my ears.

rhythmically 'tis a little boring too!! (all the same)

i won't comment on originality as i fear it might cause an argument. So i'll leave it at that. Thanks for posting.
