Debby's Trio

I have a colleague who is part of a musical family.  She plays flute, her husband plays euphonium and her son bass.  So I told her I would compose a piece for them to play.

Here's my endeavor .... this is the first completed version.  Comments/Suggestions/Kind words always welcome.

You seem to have some mistakes in the flute fioraturas like the one at the very beginning which uses a Gb right before a G# with no G natural in between and then followed by an Ab which is just an enharmonic G# once again.  Although I didn't detect any flaws in the recording.  Overall an enjoyable piece!  It seems to create a trance-like state in the listener with quite a 'suspended' feeling given all the irregular flute phrases in it with a steady ostinato in the euphonium and bass.  Great job!  I hope they enjoy learning it - it's quite quirky!

It's a pleasant piece that shows what can be done with fixed resources. Light-hearted and energetic.  As you say, you'll be reviewing it yourself so you'll pick up on things like concatenating the breaks like at bars 44 and 45. (Noted the bass is conventionally written an octave above concert pitch).

Just my thoughts here. It would have been nice to somewhere give the flute an excursion into its lower register suitably accompanied so it doesn't get lost. possibly one or two more sustained phrases to offset the agility of the rest. It made me think of "rural" on second listen, the flute as a butterfly. 

It's more or less there though, surely?

Thanks for reminding me about concert pitch!  I like your idea about giving the flute something in the lower register too.  Thanks for the listen and comments.

What I like about this tune is the small rhythmic motifs in the different instrument parts, and I just love the bass ostinato - as a bass player I listen a lot to bass lines. Interesting instrument setup also. Could some of the parts be fleshed out so that the parts may be more distinguishable? Like have horn part sustain a note while the flute plays the lead, and vice versa - at least at some parts of the song. Just an idea. I like this song, it's fun
