Fantasy 4 for Gamba Viols

hi

this is my best attempt in this genre - the "Whole Consort" - which i love above all others, but find it also one of the most difficult to deal with.

it is dedicated to a great friend of mine, Victor Freitas.

This isn't my genre at all but I can't let it go with no responses! I thought the composition was fine - a bit 16the Century drawing-room/court, maybe earlier, sorry if I got the century wrong! I reckon it might improve for a slight upping in the tempo (at the moment it drags a bit) and balancing the sound more in favour of the upper instrument.

Nice.

oh i didn't notice your reply! thanks for your interesting comments! i will check the piece again to see what you are talking about. have a nice day!

Very unusual. Franz, your Neo-Renaissance/Neo-Medieval style always intrigues me. This piece seems to have elements of Renaissance consort music and Ars Nova spliced together. At times it feels like it loses forward motion, if you know what I mean, but it may just be the electronic recording.

The chord changes at 1:40 and 2:15 were amazing...remarkable departures from your mostly modal harmonic palette. You'd have been burnt at the stake for them 500 years ago, but that's the beauty of revisiting an older idiom from a modern perspective.

Cool piece,

There's a lot going on in all the different voices - and theres something hauntingly beautiful about the vibrato and attack of the synth that you used for the mp3 - I'm not sure how this would carry in reality though?

Not that I have any real qualification to criticise (and I am new to this board).. but it doesn't seem to reach any peak.. it seems to all be at the same level - not that I think it is a bad thing.. but somethiing I would be concious of if it was my piece .

Nice to meet you through your music :)

It was very haunting and I liked it very much. I have nothing negative to say and I think it fits that genre really well.

thank you Michael!

as the same level throughout i think i agree, this piece is not intended to arouse any highly dramatic response, i was looking for just a calm and fluent feel.

nice to meet you too!
