Short Piece for the Celesta

Featured Replies

This is a piece that was formed spontaneously. I hope you enjoy it. As always, I appreciate feedback.

The first thing I notice upon looking at the score is that this is unplayable, both in the C major section and the A major section seems like it's written for 3 hands not 2.  Musically, the idea is also somewhat monotonous, rarely going someplace unexpected, not already exposited in the first two measures.  There is some slight melodic variations and the A major section introduces much more motion with its sixteenth-note arpeggiated rising and falling pattern.  But, on the whole this is quite an undeveloped piece lacking in transition or exposition of something new.  It doesn't really take the listener anywhere.  The ideas presented seem like maybe good ideas to include in another work, one that already includes a main theme and development.  But I don't know if these ideas can really stand on their own in a piece without other material.  That's my 2¢.  Thanks for sharing.

Pretty cool to use the celesta, I've never written for it before. I'd have to echo Peter on this piece, the intervals look very large for one person to play. Are the keys a smaller size scale to where you could make those wide reaches? I don't have any experience with the instrument.

This is a good start. So where could you go from here? For one I think you could add some new chords to the progression. It's nice you change key and give it a quick sixteenth note texture, but it's still the same material repeated. Play around with the chords in the scale! You have a nice back and forth with the C chord and Em/B, maybe take it to the sixth (Am) or the IV chord. Maybe you don't have a lot of experience with music theory, but it can help if you feel stuck knowing where to go with an idea. We're all here to help, all you gotta do is ask :)

Cool cinematic vibes, I could see this idea developed a bit more fitting into a soundtrack of sorts.
