Mach 6 (Low Brass Pep Band Tune)

Featured Replies

So I'm in the marching band at my school. As a member of low brass, none of the pep music is fun to play, mostly just whole notes and quarter notes. So, I took it into my own hands to make some pep band music. It was only until after I named the song that I realized it shared the name of the car from Speed Racer. The name just didn't sound right with any other number, so I stuck with it.

Here is the link to the score on Noteflight

Cool piece! I like the rhythms a lot, makes for a fun and upbeat feel that the quarter notes from your other pep music don't offer.

It seems like you were going for Bbm as the key. It'd be easier to give the 5 flat key signature since all your chord tone G's were flat. Maybe I'd spell the descending chromatic ones different in that key sig. as well.

Again, fun piece and I think the jaunty rhythms would give more pep (stupid stupid pun) in your current repertoire

It's a little odd though to be dropping the high stuff altogether, (as well as percussion). Maybe make them play all the whole notes? 😛

Oops! Yeah, 5 flats makes a lot more sense. Getting rid of those F Sharps made it easier to read too. Personally, sharps are my enemy when I'm reading music, whether it be in the score or the key signature.

I had designed this piece specifically for low brass, but maybe in the future I'll add high voices and percussion.
