The Insophisticate (Wind Quintet) - Movement 2, A Boring Walk in the Park.

Featured Replies

This is my first woodwind quintet; it was commissioned by a group at my university. I would love some feedback.

Great job!  Short and catchy.  Except it doesn't sound like a boring walk in the park at all (I don't really think that anybody would really want to listen to it if it stayed true to that title).  More like an exciting jaunt through a park imo.  The rhythms and grooves that you've laid down in the two movements I've heard so far are your strength.  You generate lots of drive and rhythmic intensity with them.  And the meter changes keep things always fresh and never feel awkward.  The only critique I have of this quintet so far overall, is that your movements are quite short, more like miniatures.  It would be great to hear you expand into larger forms and fashion a more meaningful and involved melodic/harmonic adventure/journey.  I found myself being able to compose longer pieces when I first started experimenting with writing variations or ternary forms, but that's just me.  Thanks for sharing!

Normally my sweet spot for writing personally is around 6-10 minutes with my other stuff, but with this its supposed to be more of a collection of ideas than a fully matured set of rep. Thank you for all of your thoughts!
