Bagatelle 11

Recommended Posts

Here is my 11th bagatelle in c major. I choose the harpsichord sound because I like it better! Enjoy!

Hi, Winsor

I too prefer your harpsichord midi sound. I love your work! The opening of your piece sounds like an early Mozart piece like those in the London book; really catchy tune.

As someone that plays piano, I hesitate to call myself a pianist, I can tell these are written away from a keyboard. I can't emphasise enough the importance of sitting at a keyboard to try out your pieces so that obvious mistakes are highlighted. Midi sounds can disguise some mistakes. You will also be able to find simpler solutions to musical problems because you'll be able to try out different approaches very quickly.

With your permission, I would like to suggest some different approaches.

Hi @HtWinsor,

I agree with everything @Papageno said. Those chords with octaves up and down starting from b.14 can be difficult and considered as mere repetitions if not for cadential close. The scale in b.23 also gives me the feeling as they are leading to nowhere. Again there are many nice ideas here but the music looks like a bunch of nice ideas instead of a meaningful whole of ideas. But I think you are starting to make sense of your music here so that's definitely an improvement!

Hi Winsor,

Thanks for sharing this piece. Did you intend this piece to be played on a harpsichord? I don't think the harpsichord is capable of producing a wide range of dynamics.

Hi, Carl

I don't think Winsor likes to communicate on this platform, I've tried reaching out and put some work in to show I'm friendly and helpful as is the custom on here. It's disappointing because it's such minor things that need correcting. He could improve so much with the help of others who are a little further on the musical learning journey. He seems to want to publish and not interact.

For example bar 4 is so easily corrected, A minor 1st inv. to D to G is the correct progression here. I played his piece at the piano with all the minor harmonic and playability problems solved and it's a fantastic piece, I really enjoyed it, but I decided not to publish the amended version because it'll just be overlooked and 2 hours would be wasted; writing it all down and then recording it.

I know your pain very well.
