New "snowy" orchestral film piece

Featured Replies

Moved this from the orchestral board, seems more fitting for it to be here.

I guess I should quickly post a bit about myself, this being my first post and all.

I've been composing since early 2004, and have recently taken a liking to film and orchestral video game music. I hope to become a professional composer for films or interactive media, so I'm trying to take this as seriously as possible. This is only my 3rd full-length orchestral piece (though I guess the thin orchestration suggests something between chamber and orchestral), and probably the last one written on my old CTK-671, seeing as I just got a shiny new CME UF8 MIDI controller (buy it, buy it now).

I got the inspiration for this while listening to the snow theme from Heroes 3 (snow.mp3, for anyone who has it), and this piece is written to form a similar tundra image in the listeners mind. I'm planning on including this in an epic album I have planned, with songs written for specific environment, themes, and emotions. Chances are that I'll either extend this or add more "snowy" elements to it before sticking it on the album.

I spent about 4 or 5 days actually working on this, but this was over the course of around 2 months due to a large writer's block.

That was a nice piece! I found the mood rather suitable to your purposes, but I think you should try adding some more elements. I guess woodwinds and percussion would be a good choice. This will help you to depict the atmosphere you want to create. Anyway, good work! Keep it up!

Very very fine solid things in this piece. I think it would be better if it was perforrmed live, mainly because it has feelings to it, if u know what i mean  . yes i agree with Padro, you definitely should add it some more percussions such as the suspended cymbal, would do nicely. Good work Undecided, keep it up! Hope to hear more from you.

Best regards

Ah, good to see that I'm thinking along the same lines as the listeners then.

I was planning to add percussion when I first listened to the version that you hear now, but I was afraid of ruining the piece due to my relative newbieness to orchestra percussion. I'll definately be adding percussion to this when I make the final mix, as well as messing with expression a bit more to make it seem more "alive". Thanks for your comments everyone.
