Chopin's Waltz in A minor (arr. for piano and flute)

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I have made a short arrangement for Chopin Waltz in A minor. It is for flute and piano.  I tried to condense the material that I was presented in orginal source to create a new arrangement.  While it is just under a minute, I feel there is enough material in this piece that will make it enjoyable.

Please do a thorough, in depth analysis of this composition: engraving, instrumentation, ect. I would appreciate it, for I want to create a portolio and publish my works.

Hi @Kvothe,

I think after the arrangement the dinstinctive feature of the waltz is lost when there is no bom-chart-chart dancing rhythm. After the arrangement I feel like the motion of the piece is weaker without that waltz rhythm, and there is not much added to it other than the piano right hand figuration. What is your intention of the arrangement? I feel like now it's a pop version of Chopin's waltz.

Thx for sharing!

Hi Henry.

First, I want to thank you for reviewing this arrangement. I appreciate it.

Not all waltzes by Chopin have that pattern. He wrote bass patterns that were unlike that.  *wink*

My intention with this composition is two fold. 1) it was first arrangement. I want practice arranging other pieces. 2) I want to build a portfolio of works (published or not published).   Oops 3) also promote works that I want to publish.

Yeah that rhythmic pattern is not necessary to be in the bass, but Chopin does retain the rhythmic pattern to different parts, and more importantly is that strong beat in the first beat of the measure is felt, but the long dotted minim in the bass for me quite defeats the pattern. Sometimes the pattern is lost for contrasting sections and passages, but not the whole passages or sections without having the pulse felt.

Yeah. With out strong 1st beat, it could be a polanise or ballad. Lol.

I felt the piano part could be more interesting and fun. 🙂
