March, "The Pride of Pensacola"

Featured Replies

Good morning everyone,

Happy holidays! This is my first post here. I am an avid composer of march music and have been experimenting with faster marches in the style of Fillmore and Karl King recently. I've just semi-completed my latest march, "The Pride of Pensacola". I haven't finished editing the score and parts for better readability yet, but I do have the Musescore generated mp3 of the piece.

I want to submit this to my HS band to play. If you want individual parts, I'll edit them and upload them here.

Thanks everyone!

Hello and welcome to the forum!  I think you did a great job with this march which I can easily imagine being played by street marching bands during a parade in Pensacola, Florida!  I love the gentle main theme (0:46) which you incorporate near the end with a more involved orchestration (1:57).  I think though that you could have modulated to some more distant keys besides having the introduction in Bb major and the main theme in Eb major.  This could also have extended the run-time of your march considerably.  But I do enjoy it immensely as it is and I love how upbeat it is!  I also love to include marches in my variations pieces.  Thanks for sharing!
