Henry Ng Tsz Kiu Posted July 31, 2024 Author Posted July 31, 2024 Hi @Fermata, Thx for your comment! I mean, I've done myself several counterpoint exercises for more than four voices, but always with simple stile antico themes... How did you go about working out this complicated subject? To be honest, I don’t know what technique I use. The reason I write with that subject is because it’s from the fugato in the first movement and I wanna explore it. I cut the theme short to become the first subject in the fugue here so it makes it easier to write, but when the long third subject appears in 4:58 I actually felt it easier to write since I don’t have to write with heavy stretti. The only technique I consciously used is the splitting of the third subject in b.171. I just write what I want in every moment of the fugue and doing calculation🤑 I don’t know how I work out this complicated subject (three subjects!) too… Henry Quote

Just check this out and would like to give an update: after my professor listened to the entire 2nd movement he told me that he thought the piece very powerful, solemn and sacred, and even though my dedicatee is already living in heaven now, he would be very proud and touched listening the whole piece. I remembered when I checked out his message my tears fell down immediately and they are unstoppable. That’s the first time he ever complimented my piece haha. Henry Quote
