mercurypickles Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) Hi all! This is my entry for the christmas event, though it is a bit late. I figured since it's not the new year yet that it wasn't quite too late! Notes on the piece are in the pdf. Apologies, as always, for the midi playback. This time, particularly, in the final movement, which I had to change the midi instruments to piano in the middle section. Regardless, let me know what you think! chopin Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 This was excellent, I really enjoyed all of your movements. I know that if you had higher quality playback or sounds, this would be even better! SATB sounded really good to my ears, and the time signature of your first movement is really interesting. Love the complex meter! Maybe you can explain why you decided to use the piano on the last movement though. Even though you warned us about it, I still was a little startled when I got to the piano section, because I wasn't expecting it after about 14 minutes of this choral. 1 Quote

The reason why I switched it to piano was because the choral sounds in musescore couldn’t play back the music. I’d post a sample here, but I don’t want to make your ears bleed. 😂 1 Quote
PeterthePapercomPoser Posted Sunday at 04:49 AM Posted Sunday at 04:49 AM Hello @mercurypickles! Great job! It's a shame this set of Carol's got so little attention on account of being submitted so late in the event. I was also puzzled about why you chose to use the piano in the part of the piece where you did. Did Musescore have a hard time rendering that many voices at once? I've been making some Christmas Mash-up's lately for choir and string orchestra and I didn't run into any problems with rendering too many voices at once. I'm really curious about the particular problems you encountered. Thanks for sharing! 1 Quote

For whatever reason the MIDI began cutting random bits of the music out despite all voices in the mixture showing activity - for this reason, I changed the instrument being used for that moment so the music remained intelligible. Thank you for taking a look at this piece despite it being posted so long ago! 1 Quote

I've had various issues with Musescore 4 too over the years, but they've updated it multiple times since last year around this time. Have you tried re-rendering it now with the new updates in place? Maybe it's no longer an issue? Quote
