Barcarole for Piano

Featured Replies

Hello again. I just put this piece together from an idea that I had in my head. I think it is a pretty tune. After I wrote it, I needed a name for it. I had just played a nice barcarole from my piano book that I am learning from... so I called it a Barcarole. It does have that Italian swing feel to it from the gondola songs. It isn't really a traditional barcarole because it has some 9/8 sections, but those are more from introduction and bridge! Enjoy!

1. Techniques used

None really... just listening to my inner voice and copying it down.

2. How long it took to compose the piece

about an hour and a half.

3. Structure of your piece

Intro in 9/8, A section in 12/8, development (A') in 12/8, A Section repeated, Coda.

you have a lot of good ideas!! taking one hour only to write the piece is not wnough. I think that if some harmonies were changed the piece will be much better. Also you should consider changing the texture of the piece, make it more interesting by adding some more voices on your piano. the ending also i think it could be stronger. Your melody for the most part is really good. keep it but modiffy your harmonies and your texture!

Thanks a bunch guys! I love it when people actualy listen to my pieces! And, thanks for the constructive Crit.

And Nico, I have heard of Voice leading, but I have never actually known what it is.

actually voice leading is more complicated than that. you have to avoid parallel perfect fifth and parallel octaves and a whole banch of other stuff if you are trying to be completle classical. i can't here the changed piece now since i am in my school lab but as soon as i can i will check for paralles and other stuff and let you know

Actually... the piece wasn't changed. I accidentally saved the piece before it was changed andreuploaded the same piece twice. So, there is no changed version at all. Oh well... I will just worry about those issueson the next piece that I write. Which, hint hint, will be my first string piece. It is an Allegro Quintet piece. I like it... I will post it when I arrive at my house as I am about to go to a Van Clibern (sp...) Concert. It will be most enjoyable.
