trying to create ambient piece

Featured Replies

So, recently I have been listening to a lot of ambient, music and I think the style is very interesting. I've been trying to grasp It for a bit, but It's hard to compose. The last time I tried this, I wasn't too happy with the result and I don't think It was, so I'm trying again. this time around, I'm sharing It while It's still in development so I can catch early mistakes, and receive input.

Not sure of your methods of composing music, or what programs you utilize/sounds etc... But based on the recording provided, "ambient" is.. definitely a word that could be used to describe it, however I don't think that you are hitting the mark of what you intend to have this music ultimately sound like, in your description. The reason I say this is because when I think of the word "ambient", I don't imagine surprising, sudden changes in sound that are not expected, and result in a bit of a jarring feeling when listened to. (I'm referencing the 0:23 mark in the recording). That may be something to consider avoiding, moving forward, in my opinion.

I'd urge you to look into more of the music written by C418, for Minecraft, and his other work. I believe you could gain some inspiration in the right direction from that artist. :)

In regards to asking about any mistakes you might make, that's difficult to analyze it for, given that there is no provided sheet music. If you have a score for this piece, I'd be glad to look at it for you.
