September 26, 200520 yr Hey, i'm back! Hurricane Rita gave us a scare, so I went away for a while. Anyway, I am looking for something new to play on the guitar. I was wondering if anyone here is bored enough or willing enough to take on this small challenge and write me something. Don't worry about difficulity, I can handle most anything you through my way. Eletric or classical. Ethier one, but I do prefer classical!
September 26, 200520 yr hmm lol. i dont have enough free time to write a piece, but if you want a challenge, without being too ricilulous, you could try speed metal symphony by cacophany. pretty tough stuff
September 27, 200520 yr I already know it. What people have to realize is that in shred songs, it is the same pattern. Arpeggios, sweep picking, one string alt pick...ect ect. Spend a year or two working on it and you'll master it!
September 27, 200520 yr Learned that one last year. It's a standard piece, but it is a great song to play. A lot of fun.
September 28, 200520 yr you do end up with some v awkward arpeggio patterns tho. learn michael romeo's guest solo on dawn of a million souls from ayreon's universal migrator album. that would impress the hell out of me. plus good learning

The bends used are predictable and the whole thing is cliche of metal shred. Like I said before, a little work and anyone can do it, the problem is keeping the tempo and getting up to that speed.

Like I said before, a little work and anyone can do it, the problem is keeping the tempo and getting up to that speed. that's not the whole solo.. it's quite good when it fits in with the rest of the song. and the problem is that chromatic run at the end...it's almost impossible to play.

I consider only a few Caprices to be great music. The best works Paganini produced for guitar were his Sonatas (MS 84 - IIRC). They have only been published since 1985, so not a lot of players have tackled them already. Most of them aren't extremely difficult.La Catedral is nice, I agree. But it takes an extraordinary player to play the piece as musical as possible. Especially the last movement is tricky. I can't see how it connects to the first two movements. But the middle movement is gorgeous. I'd consider leaving the last part out in a concert environment. Lately, I'm working on some contemporary guitar composers. I like Villa-Lobos. He has lovely music that might be difficult to play, yet not in a virtuoso manner. The interpretation becomes more important, and bringing the individual voices out.

I learned them all for my college auditions. I didn't feel that sor's etude showed cased my techinque, so I used the caprices instead.

La catedral is rather nice. I have to disagree with you though. I think the 1st movement is harder than the 3rd. The 3rd is in my comfort range, but the 1st is not. I haven't tried the 2nd movement, I lost the music so I will have to order it again. Villa-Lobos, good stuff. I always enjoy playing his pieces. Hasn't been one I haven't enjoyed and I usually include at least one piece from him in my performance. My all time favorite composer for the guitar has to be taggera. Lovely pieces and yet difficult to get right.
November 6, 200520 yr Lachrimae Antiquae Pavan by J Dowland (probably knew of it before I) is a very melancholic and beautiful piece. Fun to play too..
