INSTRUMENTS :

No restrictions!

PRIZE:

That's a secret....

LENGTH:

No actual limits, but keep in mind that Christmas carols are often fairly short.

THEME :

Make a song relating to the Winter holidays! This is, of course, Christmas.

Look here for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_carols

TIME / KEY SIG :

It doesn't really matter...

DEADLINE:

Well, It'd be nice to have it done in time for the holidays, but not too far into them that they can't really be enjoyed. Maybe December 15?

JUDGING REQUIREMENTS:

Well, anyone can judge, given that:

A: they are not actually IN the contest

B: They have a CPU capable of hearing good MIDI. Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to hear the music in its potential.

C: They aren't procrastinators

Well, get to it! PM your competition administrator if you have any questions. The competition administrator should PM ME if HE has any questions.

cool! So, ya. Umm... I can't enter, obviously, but I'll judge as well as admin, if I can. Can I not? Umm... I'll only accept judges equal to less than 1/3 of the competition, preferablly less than 1/4. We need contestants more than judges.

Hm, I think it would be alright for you to enter, I see no problem with it myself. But I don't know the rules on this. ^^

Theirs only 1 problem with that idea. you see, I am the admin, I created the rules. So I can't.

Hello, i would like to enter ( though i haven't really composed anything good enough to be anything worth mentioning, but i think i could make something for this competition, even though i have a low chance of winning with my level of skill ) :)

I'll be a judge. I don't plan to enter at all and would enjoy doing this, if that is alright with everyone else.

I just might enter this--I have several composition contests lined up in the coming months, but no shortage of ideas, and Christmas carols are a particular interest. Can I arrange it for orchestra as well as voices? :)

I'll enter in this one for sure! But one question... can we do mp3s or is it just midi?

hmm... Sure! I'll enter Deminicus, and ya, you can arrange for orchestra as well. You could do it entirely in duck quacks, for all I care, though you wouldn't get a very high score...

Umm... Ya, I'll put Bitterduck up as a judge.

Smallz, well, you COULD use MP3s, but, well, it won't increase your score, at all. Actually, I'd prefer if you didn't use MP3. You can, but it may knock your score a little, simply because we can't judge it the same.

I'll give it a shot... not sure if i'll finish it in time though... so can i?

I was thinking about writing a Sorabji-like piano work using as much christmas melodies as possible. But that will horribly fail at the criteria. :D It would be barely playable, listenable and most melodies would be unrecognisable...

I might try just as well, for fun.

Yea, count me in (as a contestant)! :D

Wolf_88, The Baroque Enthusiast, Prometheus, I've entered you all in. So, let me get this straight.

Uuh, I didn't say I am going to write something for sure. But I may to try to create a big polyphonic texture with my favorite christmas melodies. Plus I have a tendency for not finishing works. Also I have no interest in winning or competing. I am just interested in writing :)

But, I am a bit confused. Christmas carol, so this is supposed to be a real carol?

Really, I don't know how the average 'christmas carol' sounds like and what it is. Sure, I know lots of christmas tunes. But I am sure those aren't all carols.

I think we're supposed to make our own carols....so I guess that means our own melodies as well.

I agree. What exactly qualifies as a carol? What sets it apart from the traditional hymns that we sing at Christmas (because I'm sure many of those songs are mislabeled as carols)?

One question.

Does it have to include choir/voice (and lyrics)?

No, the song does not require choir/voice/lyrics. Adding them will not help nor weaken your score.

Well, if we are using new melodic material, how will it sound like a christmas carol?

Enter me in, I'd like to give a shot at this, since i don't have a shot at the Ragnaraok!!!!!!!!!

Their is a general sound to christmas carols. Its supposed to remind us of the holidays. IT IS NOT A REMIX.

SO WE GET TO CREATE OUR OWN CAROL?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this will be good

I'm a friend of Deminicus, and I would like to attempt to try this contest out. =D

Looks like we will have a heck of a lot of contestants. YA-YA! Oh, and, could the admin add all these people, or have they done so already? Oh well, thanks!

Chad dream eyes and Ryan have now been added as contestants. :)

What the heck, I'll give it a shot.

Count me in.
