THEME :

Make a song relating to the Winter holidays! This is, of course, Christmas.

Well, It'd be nice to have it done in time for the holidays, but not too far into them that they can't really be enjoyed. Maybe December 15?

JUDGING REQUIREMENTS:

Well, anyone can judge, given that:

A: they are not actually IN the contest

B: They have a CPU capable of hearing good MIDI. Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to hear the music in its potential.

C: They aren't procrastinators

cool! So, ya. Umm... I can't enter, obviously, but I'll judge as well as admin, if I can. Can I not? Umm... I'll only accept judges equal to less than 1/3 of the competition, preferablly less than 1/4. We need contestants more than judges.

Hello, i would like to enter ( though i haven't really composed anything good enough to be anything worth mentioning, but i think i could make something for this competition, even though i have a low chance of winning with my level of skill ) :)

I'll be a judge. I don't plan to enter at all and would enjoy doing this, if that is alright with everyone else.

I just might enter this--I have several composition contests lined up in the coming months, but no shortage of ideas, and Christmas carols are a particular interest. Can I arrange it for orchestra as well as voices? :)

hmm... Sure! I'll enter Deminicus, and ya, you can arrange for orchestra as well. You could do it entirely in duck quacks, for all I care, though you wouldn't get a very high score...

Smallz, well, you COULD use MP3s, but, well, it won't increase your score, at all. Actually, I'd prefer if you didn't use MP3. You can, but it may knock your score a little, simply because we can't judge it the same.

I'll give it a shot... not sure if i'll finish it in time though... so can i?

I was thinking about writing a Sorabji-like piano work using as much christmas melodies as possible. But that will horribly fail at the criteria. :D It would be barely playable, listenable and most melodies would be unrecognisable...

I might try just as well, for fun.

Uuh, I didn't say I am going to write something for sure. But I may to try to create a big polyphonic texture with my favorite christmas melodies. Plus I have a tendency for not finishing works. Also I have no interest in winning or competing. I am just interested in writing :)

Really, I don't know how the average 'christmas carol' sounds like and what it is. Sure, I know lots of christmas tunes. But I am sure those aren't all carols.

I think we're supposed to make our own carols....so I guess that means our own melodies as well.

I agree. What exactly qualifies as a carol? What sets it apart from the traditional hymns that we sing at Christmas (because I'm sure many of those songs are mislabeled as carols)?

No, the song does not require choir/voice/lyrics. Adding them will not help nor weaken your score.

Their is a general sound to christmas carols. Its supposed to remind us of the holidays. IT IS NOT A REMIX.
