Solo Piano Piece

Featured Replies

My first attempt at a "modern" piano piece. The midi format cut off my last measure for some odd reason :)

Hmm.. It's pleasant, not pleasant in the sense of sunshine and flowers, but rather in the sense of tastefull dissonance (very much so). There are a few problems with wide intervalls in the rigth hand though, check measure 4,10,16 and 59. These are very painfull to play. (Unless you are a big piano monkey like Rachmaninov :) )

Nice job! Just needs some minor polishing.

Ah, I see what you mean! I guess it is obvious that I don't play piano very well, haha :) Thank you for the comments!

Not compared to me you don't. If you heard me play the Alla Turca or Pathetique3 you'd have me arrested for noise pollution, heh heh. :P I'm not entirely sure how valid my comment is, as i can't reach any further than from C to 8va:E, Most male pianists I've encountered have a comfortable (well, maybe not TOO comfortable) 11th even!

Yeah, there you have it; I'm useless at this.

SoloPiano.mid // I congratulate you for venturing into less traditional harmonic and rhythmic idioms - and you do it with grace and skill! The only place where I overtly disagree with your decisions as a composer is the small section with the major and minor chords starting at 1:22. You've used a lot of dissonances and harmonies that do not involve the perfect fifth before and after this point and this small section seems a little bit out of place.

I think each of your individual sections is well-composed and I wouldn't mess with much within each of them. However, I encourage you to think about how each section - each new texture, or harmony, or idea - adds up to create an overall musical picture. Do the sections build upon one another? Do they have any connecting material? What makes the collection of each individual section a full piece of music rather than a bunch of miniatures that segue one to the other? Of course, none of these questions have (or should have!) definitive answers, but I think simply considering them will help you should you choose to edit the piece further.
