can you read music?

if so, do you know anything about the ranges and capabilities of different instruments?

now, to comment on your works:

this is dreadful writing for "string trio".

I see absolutely no consideration for the nature of the instruments used.

are you aware that you are writing music that is completely unplayable on the instruments you've chosen?

more than half the viola and cello notes are completely outside the physical range of the instrument.

not only that, the MIDI files don't even include any information to switch to string instrument patches.

quite apart fro any of the above considerations, this sounds EXACTLY like all your other music.

I don't mean that it's "in the same style"... I mean that it's the same notes!

I know my "review" is harsh, but right now, you need to be told a harsh truth.

I sense absolutely no seriousness on your part here. You don't appear to want to improve yourself in any way. If you intend on continuing in music as anything other than a very feeble passtime, then you will need to apply yourself to learning at least a BIT of harmony and theory.

if you don't intend on using real musicians or even of composing as if you had real musicians, then why bother calling it a string trio?

If you put a piece up on this forum and call it a flute solo, and it's written completely outside the range of the flute and requires twelve trombones, then SOMEONE is bound to call you on it.

Since I now know your intent, I'l refrain from commenting on your pieces from now on. I really see no reason to give feedback to you if it's falling on deaf ears. Good luck with your music.

Composition with no intent on ever having your pieces performed; the point escapes me. And why did you not state in your first post that your intention was to write crappy impossible to play music? If you intend to take writing music seriously i recommend you purchase a book on harmony (i can recommend walter piston's) and keep writing for ensembles you understand unless you want your music to be ripped to shreds by anyone who knows anything about music.

and, one more question; Are you taking the piss?

actually, out of curiosity, do you know what the appelation "opus" means and how it should be applied?

I compose for piano only! I am sorry I wont repeat this mistake!! And why everybody here so serious?? Its just a piece for the computer! I promise not to compose something for the computer to play, I will make sure to stay in the range of the instrument! please all CALM DOWN!!

things get a bit heated here sometimes, generally when people talk about your music they'll focus on the bad points as those are the bits that need improvement

lol, funny how everybody did get ticked. anyways, there are composers that use the computer to accompany an actual instrument. Babbit has done this and it is a serious area of study in composition today. However, with this you should really keep human performers in mind because you might want someone to play it someday.

well, as the music it does not match my preferred styles, so i am not the right commentor to it, however i have found many interesting passages.

the thing i'd like to say is that in my opinion you shouldn't feel hindered by such comments like those posted here regarding actual playability. as other commentor said, nowadays computers are increasingly being used in concerts, and if the purpose is to create ordered sounds people or machines are equally entitled to do so. if a computer perform your music as you wish, go ahead and be happy! people seems to forget that computers arte just INSTRUMENTS, and they can be so good instruments as a Stradivarius can, in skilled hands. and seems equally to forget that the so-called "modern" orchestra is a thing more than a full century old, dating from Romantic period.

all this discussion is quite pointless IMO, and strongly recalls ancient fights which took place when new instruments appeared. as an exemple, before Monteverdi the violin, now the king of the orchestra, was regarded as a peasant instrument only, never to be admitted in a high culture ensemble. today we see so many new possibilities arising with the new technologies, all them possible enrichments to artmaking - so why forwarding prejudices against novelties???

I don't think, in this particular case, that it was a question of using the computer as an instrument or of lack of recognition of the synthetic medium as an expressive tool.

The problem was that the work was announced as a string trio, for violin, viola and cello, yet was quite simply outside the scope of that sort of ensemble. The criticisms that were levelled on that account were justified.

When he stated that the work was not meant to be played by a string trio, then the question was simply "so why call it a string trio?", which again, I don't believe was an unwarranted question.

As for my own comment about refraining in future from commenting on his pieces, that is a parsonal choice as a reviewer. I have a busy professional schedule, and to take time out to comment on works, I like to know that the comments will lead to SOME sort of improvement on the part of the OP. If I personally feel that it is a lost cause, then it remains still my personal choice.
