January 22, 200719 yr Hello all Thanks to a few members of this site (namely juji, evan and nico) I've been branching out in my listening and trying new things. I've found I really like Rimsky Korsakov, could anyone recommend some composers in a similar sort of vein? Thanks, Mark
January 22, 200719 yr If you like Nikolai look into the other members of the New Russian School. Also try Mahler (neoromantic technically, but still amazing).
January 23, 200719 yr The black eyed peas is good. They have lyrics and music from heaven!

January 23, 200719 yr You've probably listened to the wrong recordings, I'd recommend Michelangeli: YouTube - Michelangeli plays Debussy To enjoy Debussy to the max, you should try to envisage the scenes he paints with his music- Trust me, it works! - his music becomes infinitely more inspiring to me when I employ this method. Try to search out some of the orchestral music as well, if you haven't already.
January 23, 200719 yr Author thanks for the links letehn, checking them out now EDIT: i saw the pianist and thought it was another click from american psycho!
January 23, 200719 yr Well, you know my opinion on that ;) and the tens of composers I've mentioned :D :D I'll be looking forward to seeing how're you doing, though
January 23, 200719 yr If you like what you hear of Brahms so far, start looking into his chamber music. I especially recommend his piano quintet and piano quartets.
January 24, 200719 yr Skrjabin Symhonies Janacek Quartets ~Nico Scribain is HAWT. (you spell it funny) As are the Janacek quartets... ... Nice list, by the way!
January 24, 200719 yr Try listening to the symphonies of Bruckner's 4th,9th and Shostakovich 5th,9th and Prokofiev's 5th. Also Brahms' sonata's for solo instruments and piano, op.120 no.1 and no.2 for clarinet or viola, and two sontas for cello, and his string quartets. Also for late romantic, try Elgar's Cello Concerto in E minor, and his Pomp and Circumstance Marches.
January 24, 200719 yr Author thanks very much for all the recommendations people, loads of stuff to download and listen to (P2P, completely legal!) Nico, thank's so much for that, I'll check out everything on there i haven't already. Mark
