A classical-type piece i wrote.

Featured Replies

I usually never write classical sounding pieces, so this new composition is sorta special!

I classify it as baroque, but i honestly have no idea what kind of era this type of composition would come from.

well.. its very... uh LOUD???

I would call it a popular baroque mood. But it lacks development

in other words, it doesn't try to tell me something musically.

Listening to your use of instruments YOU CAN DO BETTER!

I challenge you :D

Sir, I believe this piece is loud and repittive. I do not think it can stand on it's own as being a great piece, but more like a background score in a film at best. You repeated for too many sounds without going anywhere. I suggest you take this piece a part and expand it. Add depth and relieve the tension to rebuild it. You can only take a person so far with tension before you must relieve it!

Lol, thanks for your comments

This piece was made for a game, so you're not meant to really focus on it. But thanks for your comments, i'll keep em in mind when actually writing a serious composition.

Where does it say you wrote this to be a video game piece(although the annoying repetitive nature of the piece should have been a give away)?

That is right no where. I wouldn't classify this as baroque at all. It's just typical kid stuff. In other words, sounds like every other video game song on this site. Boring, repetitive, and loud.

Seriously though, is this song actually going to be in a video game? If not, you wrote a video game song with a scene. It's like designing a a costume for a non-existing play.

"It's like designing a a costume for a non-existing play."

...And thats wrong how? It is still creating something, and the idea of a game or a scene from a game gives you a certain thing to shoot for.

Well, think about it for a second!

If you are making a costume for a play that hasn't been created, you are basically just hoping a play will need your costume. Generally speaking it is a waste of time unless you plan to write a play later on that needs the costumes you made. In very much the same way, writing for a video game that isn't out is just a waste of time. Unless you plan to program a game that requires your music and has the exact scene length of your song, then why really bother? It is good practice, but an etude is just that.

Harsh comments. I don't be harsh to be harsh, but if you notice, on this board people on give nice flowerly reviews. I can say nice things about your piece, but what good would that ever do you? None.

It would make him feel better

I like the loudness of the piece, but as mentioned, it lacks development. Sounds like 8 measures repeating over and over again to me.

Without jumping into the discussion earlier in this thread, I find that your work is a very chordal, de facto resembling a generic pop chord progression. The texture of that progression is filled up by a harpsichord, a keyboard/organ-like instrument (isn't that called choir-ah's?) and strings (I might be missing a section). Then some other sections play very 'safe' melodies on top of the chords. To me the only 'classical-like' part of the chord progression seems to be the suspension of the dominant and some sequencing.

There's not a lot of movement or ideas going on, not in a tonal sense nor in a motivic/thematic sense. You do use most of the orchestra, but not in a very productive way. It would be wise to check out a score by a famous composer, or read a textbook on orchestration. Also, the composer Arnold Schoenberg (Sch
