Joking Imps

Featured Replies

This is a piece I wrote for a percussion ensemble. For lack of an obvious title I listened to the piece being churned out of my computer and came up with these little imps. Let me know if it works for you. I would like to post an mp3 but I'm not very smart when it comes to converting aiff files. Any tips would be appreciated.

Hiya,

I would really like to listen to your piece but my Sibelius is too old :D

I suggest you download Super it's a converter that will allow you to make mp3s. Then of course you need to find a webspace to upload it so try ensips.com or SoundClick.com

Alternatively you could upload a midi but to be honest they sound absolutely rubbish!

Good Luck,

Fourhtage

Garth! I really enjoyed this. I think I enjoyed it because it was thoroughly enjoyable, especially the rhythms.

Many thanks in advance for my bettered future,

Blenching Snail

i didnt quiet like it? it sounded as you randomly picked out notes and rythms and said thats kool, im sure if you listen back you wouldnt be happy showing this to someone saying look heres my best work? i know its mordern etc but it has no 'thought' behind it non that i can hear anyway sorry... in terms of improving i would look to use different textures... i like the end maybe you should have variation between that.. it seemed like every semiquaver beat was filled, there was no progression to the music it was static in its texture feeling and pulse

I really enjoyed the rhythms and the general feel of this piece, but it didn't do much for me harmonically. Try to come up with another theme for the piece, so that it's not just a lot of the same thing, you know?

Thanks for listening guys and snails. I'll try to post an mp3 somehow this week.

Aside from the marimba part I agree that this piece does not have a strong harmonic core and this is purposeful because it was written for percussion instruments. However, the marimba part was pretty intensive and it might have been somewhat understated by the poor replay mix on sibelius. This is my best work so I must disagree with you violinboy. Perhaps the thought that was invested in it does not suit your own. A lot of my attention was placed on texture and development. I'm surprised that you felt the piece was boring and static, especially since it was so short. I would love to learn more. If you'd care to do so, please elaborate.

This piece is interesting! The first time i heard it i didnt see much logic in it and thought it was a bit random, but then I listened again and I saw a kinda warped logic in it, which is good I suppose considering that you are describing mischeivous imps. It was actually quite evil sounding in places I thought in a disturbing, messed up sort of way. However I thought at times there was a bit too much going on at once and it was a bit overwhelming. The main problem for me was the harmonys and chords were (in my opinion) a bit too illogical and the melody was also a bit unpredictable. Having said that I'm not really into modern styled pieces like that so I probably would say that lol. The rhythms were really entertaining and clever though so kudos for that. I liked it.

Ok I finally got around to putting the mp3 on the net. Its a much better quality recording. Thanks for the comments. I'm surprised that the harmony seems perplexing since it is based upon f# minor with many a passing tone. There are a few derivations and plenty of inversions of diminished chords, but I thought it was straight foreward overall. Anyways...

Very modern. I love your dissonaces. Good stuff.

Keep it up.

Heya thanks for the mp3! It's definitely different, I think I like it :P

It's very perplexing, I like the rhythms and the general feel of the piece. Its very stylish, I'm finding it really difficult to say anything about this piece. I can hear that you have put time into the texture and rhythm it really shows.

I would love to hear some of your other work its so quirky!

Chris
