Blackened Pearl

This piece is entiteled Blackened Pearl. After watching the Pearl Harbor movie I decided to make it the base for this piece. It is one in Three Movements of a larger work. Being the middle one. It is based on major events in American history.

Writing it I tried to go for a melenchaoly(I know I didnt spell that right...) feeling. As you would be sitting up in the hills of Hawii watching the smoke rise from below. It ends on a happy note as it united the american people in a way so powerful, the likes of it haven't been seen here since then.

The form is A B C A B D.

How do I put it... It doesn't seem to go anywhere for a long time (it does near the end, but before that it gets a little redundant). It's a very interesting melody however, but perhaps it could be built on a little bit?

I think woodwinds would go very well with this, but being a clarinettist and lover of woodwinds, I usually do so maybe I'm wrong^^.

Very interesting piece, did you purposely attempt to make the listener think you were about to go faster everytime you paused?, because that's good, just a teeny tiny bit overdone, the ending is great though.

sawdust- I tried to make it a breath of fresh air, Im glad it worked. Thanks though. I never thought about the pauses like that, its interesting that you brought that up. I didn't think about it like that at all. =) I just tried to make it melancholy.

rite- I would agree, it does stay in that feeling for a long time, I didn't try to make it boring thought. I will take your suggestion to the heart. I also think that was what made the ending special for me though. It was like a breath of fresh air.

The melody and harmonies are very interesting, but as others said it doesn't seem to develop very much until the end. I felt like the piece did'nt know where it was going or what it was doing until the end.

I think I'm gonna revise the second A section and replace it with some other kind of development leading up to B in a large cresendo.

Wow, I think this was rather good, you seem to create moods well, the only thing I thought it needed was a section where it would slow down a bit, as if to pause to think about the music :D But that's just me and my weird little opinion

I thought it was pretty good. The harmonies at the beginning were interesting and I liked it. I aslo liked the horns. My only problem wiht it is that it didn't convey that feeling of melancholy. It sounded almost slightly scary to me. But of course, this is just my opinion and I could be wrong.
