Two of my compositions

Hello there. I'm Rob, 16, and I'm a violinist / self-taught pianist from England.

Here are three of my compositions. The first two are school assignments and the third is something I did this morning for fun. Comments would be appreciated :blush:

This is very cool! The best one is A minor. Is that your original composition? And by the way what do you mean by school assignments? They are all very good and the most suprising part was twinkle,twinkle.

I think he means, that he is in a music theory class and he was giving some guidelines and that is what he came up with.

Yes, I'm doing A level music at school. The two I did for school were 'Twinkle Twinkle' and 'Powerful Stranger'. The task for the former was to take a well-known tune and arrange parts for the rest of the class, and the latter was just to write a song, which I don't like doing heh.

And yes, they're all my original compositions.

I liked both of your pieces very much. They were pretty relaxing, but I must say this. It's impartical to perform Duano. You'll need to have two separate pianos. I think it was meant to be 4 hand piano piece, but the problem is that at certain places the different hands interfer with each other.

Hey there! Nice pieces indeed! The Twinkle Twinkle one reminded me of video game music. I'm wondering whether you weren't indirectly influenced by this type of music. Either way, great work all around!

Hi Rob - what school do you go to? i'm from Reading too...

The Aminor one sounds almost identical to a tune made by the group faithless (drifting away if I remember) - including the funny modulation thingy - but that's not a piano solo, and isn't as fast or hectic. Nice tune though.

Yo Stefan. I go to Maiden Erlegh. What about you (if you are at school)? I just downloaded that Faithless song and you're right, the tune is pretty similar... hmph! I hadn't heard it before though... so does it still count as mine? :) And which 'funny modulation' were you talking about?

And cavatina, I don't play games with decent music so nope I wasn't influenced by it.

I'm a little late here, but I really liked these - especially 'Twinkle Twinkle', 'Duano', and the nifty rhythms in parts of 'Theme'.

i'm going to learn the a minor piece on piano for some fun ^_^

though i'll have to work out what bits to play for one piano.. ;)

A - minor - The heavy repeaed chord sin the piano go nicely to create a sense of menace against which your more fluid notes can dance. There's almost a game quality to the tune in fact. But it's in a good way. Like the time when the hero is doing something really intense, a chase sequence, or drmaatic intro perhaps. Very nice.

twinkletwinkle - Have you by chance heard Dohnányi's 'Variations on a Nursery Theme'? I was reminded strongly of that piece while listening to this one. Whereas you have very heavy intensity to your rendition of the tune, Dohnányi's work is far more tongue in cheek. Still, consider it a high compliment for me to mention his name and yours together. :-)

Theme - Lovely atmospheric opening here! It looses some of it's immediate interest though when the pace slackens. This piece does a good job handling minimalism, but I cannot confess it is my favorite. Not a whole lot seems to happen at all during the course of the four minutes you play. You've got some good material here, but you don't let it do enough.

Duano - Ah, an excitig opening that gets us right in the thick of melodic and harmonic invention. I also like that it never seems to let up. Nice job! :-)

Hi Rob, I've listened your compositions and I think they are good. But I think they're too repetitive (especially the "theme"), mechanic, tiresomely insistent and monotonous. It doesn't mean they're bad but i think you should try to combine melodhic and rythimic passages making a well-balanced piece. I hope you want to do majestous and very powerful sound but i think it'd be much better to put some melodic and less powerful passages.
